Sweet treats to take home 20.06.2012

If you are a lover of all things sweet, make the most of your stay in the Pays de la Loire and stock up!

Make sure that you pick-up some Berlingots Nantais, or Quernons d'Ardoise (a speciality of Anjou made from caramelized praline with almonds and hazelnuts which are coated in blue chocolate to imitate slate). You should also try the Vendéen brioches, and the Sablés de Retz or from Sablé-sur-Sarthe (like shortbread, but even yummier). All these treats are bound to delight those with constant sugar cravings, but you may need to watch your waistline when you get home! Before you leave, don’t forget to take a little detour to Nantes for the Véritable Petit Beurre LU – a classic, no substitutes will do!

Still craving more?
All that outdoor air builds up an appetite. Fortunately, it’s impossible to stay hungry for long! In Pornic, stop by ‘La Fraiseraie’ and sample some homemade ice cream. When in La Baule, make sure you try the local speciality ‘Niniche’– a colourful sweet on a stick. The Vendée is almost as famous for its brioche as it is for its beaches. If you like your treats crispy then head on over to Saint-Michel-Chef-Chef, ‘capital” of the celebrated St-Michel ‘galette’, it’s the place for you! Don’t leave without tasting the ‘quernons d’ardoise’ in Anjou and the delicious ‘petits sablés’ shortbread biscuits in Sablé-sur-Sarthe. Some of these producers, such as La Fraiseraie, are members of the ‘Visitez nos entreprises en Pays de la Loire’ network – so don’t hesitate to drop in for an experience that really is a treat!
